Requirements
The first thing you need is a server. If you have a hosting provided already they need to support PHP5. If not, we suggest Googling for cheap hosting, or you can check out our friends over at RelyHost. You also need a way to upload files to your server, and you'll of course need a Flickr account.
Installation, Step-by-Step
- Download the latest version of Phlite
- Connect to your server (this is most likely done with an FTP program)
- Upload all of the files in the Phlite download onto your server
- Change the file permissions for the 'phlite' directory to 0777 (click here for help)
- Open your favorite browser and go to the guided installation panel (e.g. http://mywebsite.com/phlite/install)
- Fill out the form and press 'Generate'
- Click on the link to update your files and see your completed site
- If everything is working properly it's a good idea to delete the installation directory at this time
Data Updates
There are three ways to update your photo data for your portfolio website.
-
Manual Update
- Point your browser to the 'Update' page (e.g. http://mywebsite.com/phlite/update.php)
-
Automatic Update
- Specify an expiration time during set-up
- The first user to access your site after the file has become out-dated will automatically run the 'Update' script
-
Automatic Server-Side Update
- Schedule a cron job to run the 'Update' script at a selected time interval
Additional Information
Template files, such as CSS stylesheets and images, are stored in the /phlite/template/ directory. Feel free to modify them as desired.
You can also remove the 'Phlite Powered' logo if you so choose. But a little credit never hurts!
